Organizational Context:

The post is located in the WIPO Japan Office (WJO) in Tokyo. WJO serves an important role in promoting WIPO's services and cooperation in Japan and neighboring countries. WJO supports research, development, outreach and capacity building in coordination with WIPO's Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific and provides Japanese-language information about WIPO. The incumbent is primarily required to provide research-related support and works under the supervision of the Head of the WIPO Japan Office.
Main duties:

The incumbent performs the following tasks:

1. In connection with the IP-Advantage database:

(a) Research, update, classify and edit short case studies on the successful use of IP worldwide.

(b) Draft new case studies based on secondary sources and primary information to be obtained through e-mail/phone interviews.

(c) Identify images to illustrate case studies and obtain permission for their use.

(d) Upload case study texts, pictures and metadata into web content management system and database.

2. Conduct primary research and draft reports/articles in English to facilitate the sharing of experiences on use of the IP system.

3. Assist in the development and updating of WJO databases and webpages.

4. Propose areas for potential research activities and assist in formulating and developing new research projects.

5. Manage the Office's petty cash account.

6. Perform other related duties as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:

University degree in law, economics, international relations. An advanced university degree is considered an advantage.
Experience:

At least one year of relevant professional work experience.
Skills:

Computer programming and IT skills.

Ease and tact in professional relations with staff and with other visitors; high degree of discretion.

Keen sense of organization, initiative, responsibility, judgment and a capacity for
multi-tasking.
Languages:

Excellent knowledge of English including excellent drafting skills. Good knowledge of Japanese. Excellent oral communications capabilities in Japanese are an advantage.
Annual salary: (Net of tax)
37, 202 USD
39, 439 USD (with primary dependants)
Post adjustment: 104,0 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
Additional Information:

- Salaries and allowances are paid in Swiss francs at the official rate of exchange of the United Nations.

*Initial period of one year, renewable up to a maximum of three years, subject to availability of funding linked to the Japan Funds in Trust and satisfactory performance.
No fixed-term appointment or any extension hereof shall carry with it any expectancy of, nor imply any right to, (further) extensions or conversion to a permanent.
